What is IPL and is it Right for Me?

Most of us have spent the last 2 years indoors a lot more than usual due to the pandemic and potentially working from home. Being housebound has really taken a toll on our skin and our daily intake of vitamin D, which may have left your skin looking a little dull and tired.

Whilst beauty is only skin deep, what if we told you that there is a way to reflect your inner beauty on the outside whilst tackling hyperpigmentation and thread veins?

Introducing IPL as your skin’s bestie!

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed light and is a photo-rejuvenation treatment that is most commonly used for reducing thread veins and hyperpigmentation. Unlike traditional laser treatments with only one wavelength, IPL transmits different wavelengths of different frequencies to target many skin concerns at once! You’ll also get a boost of collagen at the same time for a radiant, youthful complexion, whilst also smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.

Where can I have IPL?

IPL can be used to treat the face, neck, chest, arms and hands.

How does IPL work?

The light emitted from IPL is less harsh on the skin’s surface than other laser treatments, as the wavelengths are dispersed more evenly in a non-ablative way. It is ideal for people looking for dramatic results without an intensive treatment.

Depending on your skin concern, each treatment will require a different series of wavelengths, which will be discussed and adjusted accordingly.

What should I expect when receiving IPL treatment?

They say “no pain no gain” but thanks to IPL, this motto is no longer true! Beautiful results are now in reach with minimal pain. At Est-Ethics, we believe everyone deserves to feel confident in their skin and IPL is just one of the ways we can make this a reality.

An IPL session usually lasts around 30 minutes. We begin by cleansing the area to remove any product, dirt and bacteria so that the light rays can be effortlessly absorbed. A cool gel is applied to counteract the warmth and to provide a soothing sensation. Goggles are placed over the eyes. Your skin may appear redder in colour and warm to touch for the first few days but this is normal.

IPL Aftercare.

Following treatment, your skin will feel more sensitive than usual, so stock up on soothing creams such as Aloe-Vera. We recommend avoiding direct sunlight for a minimum of 2 weeks weeks which is why we advise this treatment before the peak of summer.

Aftercare for each individual person will be discussed before and after your treatment by your clinician.
